The Ulster Unionists will resume this morning their consideration of the proposals for advancing the peace process put forward by the British and Irish governments last week. They’re said to be in sceptical mood despite the latest IRA offer on decommissioning. The SDLP is also due to make its views known today.

Police in West London have reduced the cordon around area of the car bomb explosion in Ealing allowing business owners to inspect their properties for the first time since the blast last Thursday night. Much of the damage has been caused by flooding from a water main which burst in the explosion.

Residence in the Sitehill (?) area of Glasgow held a demonstration on their estate last night against what they claim is preferential treatment for local asylum seekers. The protest followed a march and vigil in memory of a 22-year old Turkish Kurd, who was murdered in the city over the weekend.

More than 15 white farmers have been arrested in Zimbabwe after confrontation with militant government supporters. The clashes broke out when a group of white farmers apparently went to protect a friend whose land had been invaded by the militants.

The future of peace talks between the Macedonian government and ethnic Albanian leaders is hanging in the balance. Western mediators are waiting to see whether negotiations can resume today following new demands from the Macedonian prime minister which are regarded by the other side as unacceptable.

The Department of Health launches a national adoption register for England and Wales today. The register will make it easier for local authorities to find adoptive parents for children in other parts of the country if they can’t find a suitable family in their own area.

The Queen Mother is expected to travel to the far north of Scotland today at the start of her annual summer holiday. She’ll be staying at her home at the castle of May in Caithness after celebrating her 101st birthday on Saturday. Last week she received a blood transfusion in hospital in London after suffering from anaemia.
