English
Language Centre General,
Business, Pre-Sessional and Teacher Courses Summer
2001 Use
of Computers at the University 1.
If you wish to
use the computing resources at the University while you are studying at the
English Language Centre, you must register as a user and you must have your own
username and password. Arrangements are made for all students to register. If
you do not have a username and password, please come to the ELC Office (room 20
on the first floor) to register. 2.
When you start
to use a computer you should always log in with your own name and password.
Normally the computer will ask you for your name and password, but if the
previous user has not switched off properly, this may not happen. In this case
you should press the ‘reset’ button so that you can log in with your own
username and password. (The reset button can be found on the computer box under
your table) 3.
Similarly, when
you have finished using the computer, you should make sure that the computer is
switched off properly. To do this, click on ‘Start’ at the bottom left of
the screen, then ‘shut down’ (twice). If this does not seem to work press
the ‘reset’ button. 4.
You should never
allow anyone else to use your name and password. Nor should you use anyone
else’s username or password. It is an infringement of University regulations
to use another person’s ID and disciplinary action will be taken against
anyone found doing this. All students receive a copy of the University
regulations (see over). 5.
If you have any
question about how to use the computers, please ask your teachers for help. You
can also contact the IT Services help desk at: helpdesk@exeter.ac.uk, or tel.
3934.
